What is rucking?

Rucking is simple. It's walking over a specific distance with a weighted backpack.
Rucking is part of the training program for the military. The name comes from the military slang word for backpack: ruckpack.
Rucking can be done at a slow pace or a fast pace. It can be done over a short distance or a long distance.
It can be done with just a few pounds in your backpack or with 50+ pounds.
One of the advantages of rucking is that you can easily dial in the workout to match your experience and training level.

What makes rucking a great workout?

This isn't just another walk. Rucking activates your muscles and gets your heart rate pumping.
While rucking, you will generate a higher heart rate that you would if you were walking without any weights.
Especially for those who do not want to do any sort of high impact cardio, rucking can be a great alternative.
Rucking gets you into a cardio training zone without the risk of injury that can come from high impact cardio.

How do I get started?

The good news is that you can get started with very little gear.
All you really need is a backpack and a weight that you can place inside of the backpack.
From there, you can begin by doing sessions that last between 20 and 45 minutes.
Over time, you can add more distance, weight, and intensity to your rucking workout.
You may also want to buy specialized gear if you begin to ruck regularly.
